BMW Junior Team Member Jonathan Summerton teams with HBR Motorsport for the Inaugural Formula BMW USA Championship.

15-year-old Formula BMW USA scholarship winner, Jonathan Summerton of Kissimmee Florida, announced that he has signed with HBR Motorsport to contest the 2004 Formula BMW USA Championship.

Austrian-based HBR Motorsport has a great deal of experience in the Formula BMW Germany Championship having drivers on the podium in five rounds of their first year of competition, including one on the Formula 1 weekend at the Nurburgring. HBR Motorsport is expanding is global efforts by fielding a two car team in the USA Championship and a three car effort in the German Championship for 2004. "All the teams we were on contact with appeared to be good; however, HBR seemed to offer the best opportunities for the coming year and the future." Summerton believes that HBR brings a level of experience with these cars that will be a key ingredient for success in the USA Championship.

In preparation for testing and the opening rounds of the Formula BMW USA Championship at Lime Rock Park May 27-31, the former championship karter continues to hone his open-wheeled skills. He scored a win and third in recent Daytona rounds of the Skip Barber Regional Series.
