SIMONA DE SILVESTRO WITH EUROINTERNATIONAL IN THE 2006 FBMWUSA CHAMPIONSHIP AND ALREADY IMPRESSIVE AT THE TESTING DEBUT IN USA
Indianapolis, IN, USA. March 14, 2006 . Eurointernational announced today that talented 17 years old Simona De Silvestro, of Lausanne, Switzerland, has signed to drive with the Indianapolis-based team to contest in the 2006 Formula BMW USA Championship.
Simona De Silvestro is the first woman to drive for the Eurointernational Team, after Italian Liliana De Menna and American Kiki Wolfkill raced in the 1999 WGGTS for Eurointernational and she will compete in the FBMWUSA Championship under the Italian flag and racing license, having double citizenship: Italian and Switzerland.
Said team Owner Arturo Antonio Ferrari, " I have to thank Paolo Mondini, father of our 2004 FRV6 Champion driver Giorgio Mondini, because he was who first brought to my attention Simona and her talent. Once we met at VIR last week during our FBMW pre-season testing, while testing with some of the best drivers of the FBMW Series, I cannot believe to my stop watch after just her second ever lap in a FBMW car, in a challenging track like VIR. Simona was not only the fastest driver on the track of each of the three testing days, but also impressed our engineer Corrado Cardinali for all technical information and feeling on the car performance. She will be the greatest surprise of the incoming FBMWUSA season. In the next few days three major sponsorship announcements will make worldwide Simona program with Eurointernational in the 2006 FBMWUSA . She will keep where Edoardo Piscopo left: Winning.."
Simona De Silvestro, after the 2004 season in Europe competing in the top category Formula A, last year participated in the Italian Formula Renault 2000 Championship and she won the Super Course of the Italian Racing Federation "Young Drivers", testing the World Series FR 3.5 at the Paul Ricard, France.
Said Simona " My goal is to arrive to F1 or ChampCar and I came to America to reach my first target: win the 2006 FBMWUSA Series. I am very happy to race with Eurointernational, because the Team has a winning history in racing and in FBMW, knowing Mr. Ferrari Team in Europe. I feel at home with an European Team and I have already realized during the test how professional and competitive is the work of all organization under the management of Mr. Ferrari and the technical direction of my engineer Corrado Cardinali".
Eurointernational has finished the 2005 FBMWUSA season winning one race in each of the last three events with Italian driver Edoardo Piscopo, now Red Bull Junior Driver, who finished fifth in the 2005 Bahrain FBMW World Final last December with Eurointernational.
Simona De Silvestro will carry the traditional number 50 and blue/silver colors on her FBMW car joining in the Team the FBMW Junior Driver, David Garza Jr., from Monterrey, Mexico, who will run number 23 and BMW livery. Both drivers will debut at the first official FBMWUSA tests at Road Atlanta on March 27 and 28, while soon Eurointernational will select the driver for the third FBMW car in USA.
