Up and Down at Road America for Rossi
A sterling drive from Alexander Rossi to back up yesterday's win
Elkhart Lake, WI - Road America is a driver's circuit in the truest sense of the word. The majestic Wisconsin road-course is a circuit that separates the men from the boys with its series of ultra-fast corners throughout its four-mile layout.
Although at 15 years of age Rossi is technically still a boy, his commanding victory on this regal track the previous day marked him out as one of the men to be reckoned with, and today he again proved he is a formidable force on the racetrack.
Starting fifth, Rossi had climbed to third and was looking set to repeat his win of the previous morning, when a rival simply drove him off the road. This was no 'racing incident', just lack of good judgement by the other driver, and the race stewards duly black-flagged him, before disqualifying post-race. However, this was of little solace to Rossi, who lost around 25 seconds and 13 places.
"I had a very, very good racecar, better than yesterday," said Rossi, "and I feel like I could have won; I had made it up through he field really well, I was in third place and it was unfortunate that this eliminated my chances of other podium this weekend."
It wasn't the end though. It marked the beginning of a superb drive that saw Rossi scorching around the track and making up some seven positions in a thrilling comeback drive to ninth. In fact had the race lasted another lap Alexander would have assuredly taken two further spots because he was all over the pair directly in front of him.
Not one to be defeated, Rossi remained upbeat after the race. "The good thing is that I came back and got some of the people I'm battling with in the championship," he said, "so I'm still third in points. With only two rounds left, second place is pretty far out of reach, but we'll keep trying to get a couple of good finishes - we'll be trying for two more wins."
