Hoy signs for Mark Burdett Motorsport Formula BMW UK Championship
Mark Burdett Motorsport have announced today that they will be running a 2- car team in the 2005 Formula BMW UK Championship alongside their race winning Formula Renault UK Championship team. Ed Hoy is the first driver the team have signed for their all-new Formula BMW team.
With a new FB2 Formula BMW racecar arriving in the UK less than 24 Hours before the official test days at Oulton Park, the team worked through the night to prepare the car for official testing. At the end of official testing both the team and driver were happy with progress made; Team Principal, Mark Burdett commenting;
"Three weeks ago, we were not even considering running a team in the 2005 Formula BMW UK Championship, now we have signed Ed Hoy and had a successful first test and expect to run two or three cars in the championship. The whole team is full of energy and really looking forward to the season ahead. Considering the car had not even been to the workshop before we came to Oulton and it was a new circuit for Ed, I think Ed and the guys have done a great job throughout the test. We are looking forward to the next test - at Silverstone in a fortnight."
New to the circuit and having missed the official testing at Brands Hatch, Hoy spent the early testing time at Oulton completing a thorough shake-down before starting testing properly. Hoy felt that a brief off track excursion off during his new tyre run prevented him from showing his true pace, ending the test 2.4 seconds off experienced series returnee Stian Sorlie who set the fastest time of the day.
Speaking at the end of the day, Hoy commented;
"First of all, Ollie, Steve and Rob and all the Mark Burdett Motorsport team deserve a big thank-you for all the effort they went to, collecting the car from France only a day before we started testing! I really enjoyed my two days at Oulton Park and learned a lot from the guys. I know that I will be able to build a good working relationship with the team who are tremendously supportive. I am looking forward to a successful season in the Formula BMW UK Championship"
