As always in Sepang, BMW Motorsport and the managements of SIC and FOM made it possible to run the first official test day one week before the F1 cars in Sepang. Teams and drivers truly appreciated their efforts!
Jesse Dixon, one of three FBMW Junior drivers in the FBMW Pacific series, fresh and rested from his testing in Europe , had to use his new car for the first time after a complete rebuild. Unfortunately the car was initially plagued with minor problems which lasted until the one and only qualifying on the following Friday. This problem was getting worse and became a big worry for the team. But thanks to the detective work, help from some friendly teams and the high spirit Jesse Dixon showed during all this time, the car was running well after all. With speed trap times high on the scoring board all felt that a good qualifying was possible. Not so! Jesse ended up 22nd and 24th.
Saturday's first race results lifted all team spirits -- Jesse was on a definite charge after having a late start but then showed all compe tito rs that qualifying ordeals were behind him! He gathered at each turn more momentum, reeled in other drivers, past them and never looked back -- from 22nd to 13th place. What a nice surprise!
Sunday was even better -- second race -- blistering start from P24, past 7 cars to the first turn.....then all became just clean driving and passes. Cool headed, he selected not going into a fight at the 2nd last lap and lost 2 positions -- ending again in P13.
With four guest drivers in front of him he gathered for each race 9th position points. Well done! Congratulation to Richard Bradley for his wins!
The next four FBMW Pacific races will be held gain at the SIC track, starting with a test day until Sunday May 16th.
