Maxime Pelletier on second row at Mid-Ohio
Mid-Ohio, Ohio, June 21st, 2008. -- After realizing 5th and 3rd times in both practice sessions yesterday (Friday), Maxime Pelletier finally earned third best time in the qualifying session for the first race of the weekend in the Formula BMW America double header held at Mid-Ohio. Dealing with some understeer, the 17-year old Montreal driver, sponsored by BioCig, the new electronic and environmental cigarette, was quick enough to find a spot on second row. There will be another qualifying session in the morning while rounds 5 and 6 will go green tomorrow (Sunday).
"The BioCig car improved every time I took to the track today, admitted Pelletier. I was fifth in the morning session with a tight car and a light rear. The understeer got better by the second session and I was third. Same result in qualifying where the car had better handling. I don't mind starting from second row because I usually have good starts on cold tires. This will give me an opportunity to carry some unfinished business on the track. This weekend is very important since I must have good results if I want to stay in contention for the title. It could be a while before the appeal about the Montreal race is heard and some points are given back to me. If the results are not satisfying, it is obvious that my future in this series will be in jeopardy. We already have considered other options for the rest of the season."
The second qualifying session will take place early in the morning but rounds 6 and 6 will go green only Sunday at 10h35 and 3h45 PM. The series has also announced an extra third race in the next three programs -- Lime Rock, Road America and Thunderbolt making the series a 17-round championship. "It's a long day after the only morning session but I will take some time to rest after the debriefing session with my crew. It's fun to have more races added in the schedule because I love racing at the Rock and RoadAm. I will also be able to score more points in the standings, if I am still involved in this series."
