Maxime Pelletier, podium and 6th place at Lime Rock
Lime Rock, Connecticut, July 13th, 2008. -- 17-year old Montreal driver Maxime Pelletier had a difficult weekend as he was almost sidelined with tonsillitis while having to steer his Apex-HBR single seater for two rounds of the Formula BMW America series at the Connecticut Lime Rock facility this weekend. He spent most of the weekend in bed in between practice or race sessions and was quite happy to earn his fourth podium of the season in the first round and 6th place in the second. Scheduled for a three-race program, the weekend was finally trimmed down to the usual double header. Pelletier now lies fourth in the standings and still hopes he can regain lost points from the first Montreal race.
"I had a much better Apex-HBR machine this weekend", claims ironically Pelletier. "But this time I was almost out of commission! I started feeling bad while driving from Montreal and was quite weak when I took to the track for the practice session on Friday morning. I soon realized I would run out of energy and decided to rest all the time between track sessions and see how I would get along. I took fourth in the first qualifying session and 6th in the second when I began feeling a bit dizzy. Lime Rock is a track that requires a good physical shape because you experience high G-forces in many corners."
"In the first round, I jumped one place at the start to third and held my position until the stripe. The pavement is new and overtaking is quite slippery. A few hours later, I felt little power left in my arms and just settled for the same position I had started from. It's a good thing there wasn't a third round as previously scheduled! I hope the cancelled round is back in the calendar because I need all the possible chances to climb up in the standings. Finally, I hope I can get my points back from Montreal."
Road America next month
The next (three) rounds in the calendar will be held at Road America, Wisconsin, a race track Maxime loves to drive. "Everybody likes to drive at Road-Am and I'm think it's a fantastic track", he adds. "I will take care of my health in the coming days, wait to the hearing of the Montreal appeal and see what we will do for Wisconsin. My car was better in Lime Rock but I see my championship hopes slowly fading away."
Maxime Pelletier is in his third season in Formula BMW America. He is now fourth in the standings after eight rounds with the Austrian team Apex-HBR with an appeal pending on the third round in Montreal.
