Ruiz Ready for Formula BMW Americas Debut
(Monterey, CA) 15 May 2008--The 2008 Formula BMW Americas season will kick off this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for rounds one and two of the 14-race 2008 season. With a field full of young hopefuls, there is one young racer to keep your eye on.
While he is but a young upstart trying to make his name in the highly competitive Formula BMW Americas category, Alexandre Ruiz's racing credentials give credence to the notion that his name will be on everyone's lips soon enough as racing's next up and comer.
Ruiz has already won the notice of Formula BMW Americas organizers, who have named him as one of the "BMW Junior" drivers, earning the Sao Paulo native $80,000 towards participation in the championship and automatic complimentary enrollment in the Education and Coaching program.
The multi-discipline Brazilian karting champion Ruiz has been signed by Apex-HBR Racing team to contest the 2008 Formula BMW Americas season, which will stage race meetings as part of both the Canadian and Brazilian Grand Prix events this year.
"I am very excited to be making my debut in America this weekend and I am really looking forward to experiencing the Corkscrew corners at Laguna Seca!" said Ruiz. "I know that I have a lot to learn about racing cars after so many seasons in karting, but I am confident in my HBR-Apex Racing Team and hope to do very well this weekend to start the season. I am proud to have been selected as an FBMW Junior racer, and I want to prove that it was a good decision and show what I can do."
The first practice sessions will take place on the 2.2-mile circuit on Friday, with qualifying on Saturday morning before Race #1 on Saturday afternoon. Race #2 will take place on Sunday, starting at 2:30 PM local time.
