Kevin Gilardoni's expectations at the eve of the debut at Barcelona

07/05/2009 - The Formula BMW 2009 championship will officially begin tomorrow at Barcelona. Kevin Gilardoni, after the positive winter tests, will make his debut in one of the most demanding training categories in the world behind the wheel of the Mygale FB2-BMW, using Michelin tyres, belonging to Team Fisichella Motor Sport.

The Circuit de Catalunya, located at Montmelo, twenty kilometres north-east Barcelona. It has been inaugurated in sight of the Olympic Games of 1992 and since 1991 it houses the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix. The track is 4.727m long and the lap runs clock-wise; drivers like it for its articulation, with straights connected by fast and wide corners.

Between 1994 and 1995, run off areas have been increased for security reasons and the Nissan chicane was modified into a straight while in 2004, the complex 'La Caixa-Banc de Sabadell' was replaced by a very tight corner to improve overtaking opportunities. For the very same reason, in 2007, another chicane was inserted between the last two corners, the 'Europcar' and the 'New Holland'.

Kevin Gilardoni:

"We have had good winter testing's, even better than what I would have thought. Now we start being serious and the first objective is obviously to do a good job; in qualifying and in the races we will lap on a track rubbered by Formula One and GP2 car, a situation that I never experienced before and that will be a little bit unknown.

Getting on track from F.1.'s pit-lane will give me an emotion, but this will last just a second: Formula BMW Europe is an extremely competitive championship and it will be crucial to keep the maximum concentration throughout the weekend".

Races will be followed live by the satellite channel SKY Sport, starting from Saturday.
