A point at Nurburgring too
Another good performance of Kevin Gilardoni in his first year in Formula BMW Europe. At Nurburgring, fourth round of the season, the Lombard driver obtained his second championship confirming his continuous progress.
In the twenty-five free practice minutes Kevin had a problem to the engine of his single seater, which has been replaced by the technicians of team Fisichella Motor Sport. The chance to refine the setup and evaluate the grip offered by the tarmac were unavoidably gone.
In qualifying, Gilardoni defended himself anyway obtaining the twenty-first position for race one (2'06"616) and the twenty-second for race two (2'06"649); at the start of race one, he overtook four opponents to fight for the points without getting intimidated by the tough battle originated in the following laps in the middle of the group. The sixteenth place under the chequered flag, updated to fifteenth after the race due to the penalty inflicted by stewards to Buller, awarded the driver from Grandola and Uniti a point, the second after the one obtained at Zolder.
Race two has been characterized by rain, a situation that Kevin had faced in the past only once in Formula Azzurra. This did not prevent him from racing an intelligent race, aimed at getting the chequered flag without slipping into the traps of the wet tarmac. The sixteenth final position awarded his strategy.
"This has probably been the best weekend of the season so far. Despite I could not use all free practice I managed to get a point in race one and I did well in race two's rain. I still need to find something in qualifying: I still start far from important positions and recovering in just eleven laps is not easy. I will be back to train at Formula Medicine tomorrow to take care of both the physical and mental approach to races: I want to get the most out of the second part of the season".
Next round of the Formula BMW Europe championship is scheduled for the 26 July on the Hungarian track of Budapest.
