Budapest: positive notes especially in qualifying
Positive notes for Kevin Gilardoni from Budapest's weekend of the Formula BMW Europe 2009 championship. The young Lombard driver drove with determination especially in qualifying, even if he could not harvest what I hoped for during the race.
Qualifying offered the most interesting cues: Gilardoni attacked since the beginning improving progressively throughout the session. A problem with the last and decisive set of tyres prevented him from getting inside the top fifteen, giving him the twenty-first position on the grid of both races.
Kevin's race one lasted a lap: at the beginning of the second lap, when nineteenth, he was victim of a bumping by an opponent which caused the breakage of the rear right suspension on his Mygale FB2-BMW, forcing him to an early retirement.
Better result in race two instead, whereby the driver from Grandola and Uniti, after recovering several positions concluded seventeenth under the chequered flag.
"In qualifying I finally improved: before Budapest I could set a good time at the beginning but I struggled afterwards to improve. This time it went better and apart from the final minutes, I was constantly within the top fifteen. The two races unfortunately did not offer good opportunities to me: on Saturday it ended almost at the beginning while on Sunday I improved by some positions even if it was not easy to recover in a very competitive championship like this one".
The next round of the Formula BMW Europe championship is scheduled for next 23 August on the street track of Valencia.
