The Formula BMW Europe Championship moved to Zolder this weekend for rounds three and four of the championship. After the opening weekend in Barcelona last month as a support to the Formula One weekend, the championship struck out on its own this weekend at the Belgian track. Mihai Marinescu, Pedro Bianchini and Ollie Millroy were in action for the Fisichella Motor Sport International team.
Qualifying took place for both races on Saturday, with Marinescu recording the 12th fastest time in each session. Bianchini set the 13th quickest time in first qualifying and set himself up on the fourth row for the second race with the eighth fastest time. Millroy recorded the 22nd and 20th fastest time respectively for rounds three and four.
In Sunday's race one Romanian Marinescu was able to improve by five places, crossing the finish line in a strong seventh place, the highest placed FMS driver. Bianchini, the team's Brazilian driver, gained one position, finishing in 12th place, while Brit Millroy was able to gain four positions to finish in 18th. In the second of Sunday's races, Bianchini moved up six positions by the chequered flag to take seventh, with Marinescu three places further back in tenth. Millroy crossed the line in 17th position, improving three positions from his starting slot.
After four of sixteen events, Josef Kaufmann Racing is now leading the Formula BMW Europe championship with 188 points. Fisichella Motor Sport International is currently fifth with 71 points. The championship will resume at Silverstone in England for rounds five and six of the championship from 5-6 July as a support race to the FIA Formula One World Championship.
