Crash overshadows excellent performance Nick de Bruijn

Nick de Bruijn started his autosport career with varying success. De Bruijn finished his debut race in the 2005 Formula BMW ADAC championship in sixth place. The 18-year old driver did not finish in the final heat at Hockenheim. Despite unfortunate contact with another car, the Vlaardingen-based driver showed he will be one of the candidates for the title in the 'Rookie Cup'.

As class for young talented driver the Formula BMW ADAC is a comparable counterpart to the popular Benelux Formula Renault 2000 championship. Since all races are held as supporting programme of the Formula One and Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters broad media coverage is assured. The use of identical cars, engines, tyres, and fuel for all competitors makes sure that the driver is the critical factor for success in this championship.

Competitng for the Josef Kaufmann Racing team, De Bruijn qualyfied in seventh and tenth position for the two races. A solid start in race one brought the reigning European Formula A kart champion to a sixth place. During the final heat of the weekend, Nick had to retire prematurely. In the Spitzkehre Buemi pushed the Fin Niemela around. Niemela came backwards on the track and collided with Nick de Bruijn. Both cars were damaged too badly to continue the race. For De Bruijn the damage became worse when the marshals attempted to remove the car from the track. Because the suspension was broken, the car jumped up and down the track like a raging bull.

Nick: "This weekend had may ups and downs. My qualifying session went quite literally down the drain so I had tob e carefull not to be victim of the start. My start went well and I was able to keep up the pace the entire race. In my debut race I finished sixth. In the second race I could follow the pace and had an interesting battle with Buemi. My race was ended by the crash with Niemela, whic h caused me to retire on the spot. Despite this crash I learned a lot and enjoyed working with the team. I already look forward to the next at the Lausitzring where I hope to have luck at my side!
