Young Chinese racer TUNG Ho-Pin of Team Meritus continued his perfect qualifying record in the AFOS Formula BMW Asia Championship, taking his 11th and 12th Pole Position in a row at the Autopolis Circuit, in Fukuoka, Japan. Local favourite Lady racer Keiko Ihara (Team Yellow Hat) was second fastest in the first session, really giving her home crowd something to cheer about.
Tung's Meritus team mate Hanss LIN Po-Heng (Chinese Taipei) was third fastest in the first session, and second fastest in the second session, making it an all Meritus front row for Race 12 tomorrow (Sunday September 28). Full results and photos are available at www.MeritusRacing.com
"I'm not really going for a record, but qualifying first in every race so far means that I'm giving myself the best chance possible on race-day," said Tung of his amazing run of poles. He only needs 2 more pole positions at the final event in Beijing, China (October 25-26) to claim a clean sweep.
"The second race tomorrow should be interesting because Hanss [Lin] will be starting beside me, and he is usually quick off the line," he added. Tung was a clear second faster than the rest, while 2nd to 8th are separated by just over 1 second.
"I had an off during testing a couple of days ago, so to be third and second in qualifying is great. I hope to get a really good start tomorrow and take the fight to Keiko [Ihara] and Ho-Pin [Tung]," said a determined Lin.
The AFOS Formula BMW Asia championship attracts the top talent in the region, with successful drivers gaining access to higher formulae here and internationally.
