The G1-Meritus Racing Team is in the final testing stage ahead of this Saturday's 12 hour Merdeka Millemium Endurance (MME) Race, entering its fourth year in celebration of Malaysia's Independence Day. The team is fielding 2 Porsche 911 GT3 cars - a popular choice and the winner of last years event. Together with fighting for the Open class title, the team will also be using the event to raise funds for Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

The first car will be driven by MME regulars Adam Azman, Chin Jit Pyng (team owner) and Aminuddin Omar, while the second will be driven by Firhat Mokhzani, Chin Tzer Jinn and Eric Yeo. Between them they have numerous class victories and podiums in past MME's, and will be able to fall back on a wealth of diverse experience. Young Chin Tzer Jinn (19), for example is currently driving for Meritus in the Formula BMW Asia championship, competing against the greatest F1 hopefuls in the region.

"The car felt good, despite the conditions. At least now we'll be ready if it rains during the race," said Adam Azman, who also drove a GT3 in the 2001 MME.

"We compared a few lap times with the other Porsche teams, and I think we'll be pretty close even though they have drivers like Alex Yoong," said Eric Yeo from the pit wall.

"Everyone is talking about how tough it's going to be in the race because for the first time we'll be driving through the hottest period of the day, but to be honest, if it's raining hard like it did today it's going to be really tiring too, because you have to concentrate so much more on your driving and on avoiding the other cars," said Firhat Mokhzani.

The solid driver line-up will be supported by an international engineering team, featuring Meritus F-BMW Team Manager Paul Thompson and chief engineer Mike Foster, who has been running Porsche GT3s over in Europe for several years and recently won the UK Porsche Cup with Team Eurotech.

"It's great to be working at Sepang, and so far our drivers have been really useful with feedback to help us setup the car," said Foster.
