Kovacic second in points as Formula BMW Americas makes VIR Debut
Alton, VA (22 April 09)--Team Apex Racing USA returns to action this weekend at Virginia International Raceway near Danville, Virginia, for rounds 3 and 4 of the 2009 Formula BMW Americas season. Leading the Team Apex Racing charge will be James Kovacic, who enters the weekend 2nd in the championship standings after scoring 3rd and 4th in the opening two rounds in Mexico.
But Kovacic, who hails from Australia, will have his Apex Racing teammates also looking to break through to the podium this weekend on the 3.27-mile natural terrain course in rural Virginia. Joao Victor Horto of Brazil scored 6th and 7th in Mexico, with fellow Apex runner Martin Sala of Colombia netting 7th and 12th to start their Rookie seasons, and both young racers will look to emerge from VIR with stronger points positions.
While the VIR weekend will mark the first for all three Team Apex Racing drivers, the all-rookie roster will at least have some good resources to tap into at Apex Racing as they look to make the most of the double-header race weekend.
"We had a good start to the year with all three of our drivers, and we're excited about building on that this weekend at VIR," said Team Apex Director of Commercial Development David Hunt. "This track is one that drivers absolutely love, and even though this is the first Formula BMW Americas race at VIR, our coaching staff and engineers all have experience there so hopefully that will turn into an advantage for our drivers."
The weekend gets underway on Friday for the Formula BMW Americas drivers with practice beginning at 11 a.m. and qualifying for Saturday's race taking place at 1:30. Saturday's race will be preceded by 8 a.m. qualifying to set the field for Sunday's event, while the first race of the weekend will start at 10:30 a.m.
