Team Apex USA's Saturday Results from Road America
Formula BMW Americas Round Ten of the Championship
Elkhart Lake, WI (August 15, 2009) Team Apex Racing, USA took to the track to complete Round 10 of the Formula BMW Americas Championship during the Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase featuring the American Le Mans Series and SPEED World Challenge at Road America. They also set the field for Rounds 11 and 12 which will be held on Sunday (August 16, 2009).
In Round 10, Team Apex USA started strong. James Kovacic, driver of the No. 20 Formula BMW was battling for second place throughout the first half of the race. Martin Sala, driver of the No. 19, started in eighth and moved up several spots in the first lap. Joao Horto, driver of the No. 18 battled for fourth position throughout the first half of the race as well.
"I thought I was catching the lead, but then the handling of the car became difficult. Towards the end of the race, we had some electrical problems and I fell all the way back in the pack," said Kovacic.
Horto's patience paid off. "I was fighting for fourth place with an experienced driver. I'm happy with finishing two spots higher than I started. I'm ready to fight for a podium position tomorrow (during Rounds 11 and 12)," stated Horto.
Sala said, "My first lap was great, then a car spun out in front of me, I lost the draft and wasn't able to catch the lead pack again. Tomorrow (Rounds 11 and 12), I start eighth in both races and I hope to move up to the front quickly."
Team Apex's finishing positions from Round 10, which also sets the starting grid for Round 12 are: Horto in fifth, Sala in eighth, and Kovacic in 11th.
Qualifying positions for Team Apex in Round 11, which happened earlier in the day on Saturday, are: Kovacic in second, Horto in seventh, and Sala in eighth.
