Ricardo Sperafico won the third race of the F.I.A. F.3000 International in Austria
In Austria the red colour of Coloni Motorsport dominated the podium of the third race of F.I.A. Formula 3000 International: in facts, Ricardo Sperafico, after the Friday pole, took a wonderful victory (the second for him in F.3000, the fifth for Coloni Motorsport) on the A1-Ring track, thanks to a superb race, led from the lights to flag. The BMW-WilliamsF1 tester is now in second position in the drivers standings with 16 points.
Tenth place went to the Jordan F1 tester, Zsolt Baumgartner: the Hungarian, thanks to a very good start, was able to make up some positions in the beginning and to fight in the middle of the field. When he was running 6th, his Lola has been delayed by a mechanical problem (starting from lap 8) and he finished 10th.
After this amazing victory, Coloni Motorsport will now go back immediately to work: Sunday May 18th in facts, the team will be involved in the fourth race of the Italian F.3 Championship in Imola (I) with his two young talents Christian Montanari and Marco Bonanomi. Bonanomi, having achieved the first row in qualifying, gave to the new Lola-Dome F106 his best performance in qualifying so far.
Ricardo Sperafico, driver: "I'm really happy, even if I waited this victory in Barcelona. The race was not so easy, Wirdheim was always very close, until the 20th lap, but finally I was able to pull away and win this wonderful race. Now I'm second in drivers standings and I hope for a victory also in Montecarlo, it's fundamental in order to conquer the first position".
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: "This was the most suffered and hoped victory: Ricardo was protagonist of a beautiful race, fighting in a head-to-head competition with his opponents. This success is extremely important for Coloni Motorsport and Ricardo Sperafico and pays for the great work done in this week end and before the Austrian race. It was wonderful, after having grazed here the victory in 2002, conquering with Ricardo both pole and victory in race, a victory that confirms the car competitiveness and the great talent of our driver. We're only sorry for Zsolt, who, after an excellent start which brought him in 6th position, has been delayed by a mechanical problem".
