Coloni Motorsport in pole position in Austria with Ricardo Sperafico!
Ricardo Sperafico gave today to Coloni Motorsport the second pole position of his history in F.I.A. F.3000 International thanks to a superb performance on the Austrian A1 Ring track.
Thanks to the accurate preparation work in sight of the third race of the championship done by Coloni Motorsport, the Brazilian --BMW-WilliamsF1 tester- set a time of 1.22,036 and took the pole position (fundamental on a track like A1 Ring), ahead of the Swedish Bjorn Wirdheim.
Good results for the Jordan F1 tester Zsolt Baumgartner, who earned the ninth position with a 1.23,161 time.
Saturday the race will start at h. 15 GMT, Eurosport will broadcast the event Sunday May 18th at h. 11 AM.
Ricardo Sperafico, driver: "I'm very happy, it's an important pole that could be the turning point of my championship. I expect a long drawn-out race, my car is fast and constant. I'll try to make a good start and pull away, I'm confident, we have an optimal setup and even after many laps the tyres maintain good grip. After Barcelona, Coloni worked well in Magione and so I came at A1 Ring motivated and with the will of achieve good results. I'm not worried about losing one or two positions after the start, I'll try first to avoid risks on the first corner: my car allows me to catch up very quickly".
Zsolt Baumgartner, driver: "This is my best performance in qualifying in F.3000, I'm really happy even if I could earn the fifth or sixth position, because I couldn't exploit well the car's potential, especially in the first sector, where I was less aggressive on the kerbs out of the corners than Ricardo. For the race I think the most critical moment should be the start, particularly on the first and second corner; I will try not to be involved in a crash and in this case I think I will able to made up some positions, because this year in race I was always able to catch up very well and the car is very constant. In A1 Ring there are two spots, Castrol-Kurve and Remus-Kurve, where is possible to attack and overtake. I'm confident, I want to attack in order to earn other important points for the championship. The team did a great job, as usual".
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: "It was a positive day for Coloni Motorsport that gave us the satisfaction of the pole position with Ricardo Sperafico and the good performance of Zsolt. Today's result rewards the good job done by all the members of the team in the past week in Magione and during this week end in Austria. It's the second pole position for Coloni Motorsport after the Hockenheim one in 2002 and this confirms the growth of the team and our performances. I want to emphasize that both our drivers drove very well without mistakes in a perfect qualifying. I'm confident for tomorrow".
