"Amazing Pantano": Coloni Motorpsort's driver dominated the Spa-Francorchamps legend.
Coloni Motorsport's champion Giorgio Pantano conquered the 3rd victory of the 2002 FIA F.3000 Championship in the legendary track of Spa-Francorchamps.
In one of the most exciting and difficult circuit of the world, Pantano drove a fantastic race ahead Bourdais and Ricardo Sperafico. At the start, Giorgio was outside and overtook Pizzonia. In the first lap, the Italian talented driver was able to overtake both Bourdais, before the Eau Rouge corner and Enge, taking the lead. During all the remaining laps, Pantano was able to defend the 1st position from Bourdais' attacks, who tried each lap to overtake him in the Kemmel straight.
But the Coloni Motorsport's engineers had decided together with Giorgio to install a 6th gearbox ratio longer after the qualifying session, for taking advantage of the wake and for being quicker in the long straights of Spa. Pantano drove in a superlative way and did no mistake.
Enrico Toccacelo had an unlucky race. Enrico did an excellent start and at the Source overtook Wirdheim, but the Swedish driver missed the brake and touched the Coloni Motorsport's Italian and Pizzonia. Toccaelo lost his front nose and was forced to come into the pit lane. He rejoined the track, but after few laps he retired because of a suspension, damaged in the crash.
In the last round of Monza Pantano, Bourdais and Enge can conquer the Driver's Championship. Giorgio will do the best to achieve the title, which misses from Italy from 1995. Also Enrico Toccacelo wants to battle for the front positions in our home race.
Coloni Motorsport: "We are extremely pleased about the performance of our drivers. Pantano was superlative and demonstrated to be a real champion. Also Toccacelo drove a great week-end, but unfortunately he could not show his performance because of the crash in the first corner. We want to thank you the two drivers for the superb job that they are doing. Giorgio is battling for the title and we are looking forward to Monza with confidence. All the Team did an excellent job and we are proud to arrive at the last round of the Championship in Monza with the chance to win both the Driver's and Team's Championships."
