Norfolk based Formula 3000 team Nordic Racing have secured the sponsorship of the Central European Division of the world's leading manufacturer, marketer and distributor of non-alcoholic beverages.
Mark Hope, Managing Director of Coca-Cola's Carpathian Region said: "We know that motor sport is exceptionally popular in the countries within our Division, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We decided to sponsor Nordic Racing as a locally relevant connection with the interests of our consumers, customers and communities."
Derek Mower, team owner of Nordic Racing, said: "I am pleased and proud that a company of Coca-Cola's stature and influence in the market place has agreed to sponsor Nordic Racing. I am sure they will enjoy their association with us and the team will do all that we can to ensure a successful relationship. I am grateful to PSM F1 Management for their involvement in securing this prestigious sponsor on our behalf."
Nordic Racing Limited was formed by Derek Mower in 1993 with his son Chris. Nordic was originally established specifically to compete in the European International Formula 3000 Championship.
Derek Mower, Team Principal of Nordic Racing, has over 35 years of world-wide experience in motor sport, working with many famous drivers such as Clark, Hill, Rindt, Fittipaldi and Andretti to name a few. Derek has experienced F1, F3000, USAC, Indy and Cart Racing. Chris Mower, the Team Manager, worked in Formula 3000 for five years with drivers such as Marc Bllundell, Eddie Irvine, JJ Lehto, Christian Fittipaldi and Antonio Tamburini. In 1992, Chris joined Lotus in F1 with drivers Johnny Herbert and Mika Hakkinen, before returning to F3000 as a partner in Nordic.
This year, Justin Wilson, a 21-year-old Nordic Racing driver from Woodall, Sheffield, UK, was 3rd at Silverstone, 5th at Barcelona, and 2nd at A1Ring in Austria. Currently, he is fourth in the FIA International Championship.
European F3000 is considered to be the last stage towards F1. In F3000 uniformly constructed Lola B99/50 racing cars compete which have carbon-shell bodies and an eight-cylinder, atmospheric three-litre Zytek engine with approximately 368kW (500k). At 9000 revolutions, a revolution limiter is activated. The minimum weight plus driver is 625 kg, and the maximum width of the vehicle is 203 cm. The sequential, five-speed gearbox and Avon tyres are also uniform.
