Watch Macau GP's craziest-ever finish

The Macau Grand Prix has thrown up its fair share of surprises, but this year’s Formula 3 race perhaps delivered its craziest final lap.

Race leader Sergio Sette Camara’s tyres had lost their edge and put him in the clutches of Carlin’s Ferdinand Habsburg – whose brave attempt to grab the front around the outside at Mandarin failed.

Going into the final corner, Habsburg saw a chance and swooped around the outside, briefly moving to the front.

But he carried too much speed around the R-Bend, and understeered off into the barriers – just as Sette Camara had gone too tight and himself speared off into the wall.

That opened the door for Daniel Ticktum to grab a sensational victory from Lando Norris.

For Habsburg’s boss Trevor Carlin, who has seen it all during his long career, the Macau GP finish may not have been as random as Paul Stewart winning an F3 race at Snetterton in 1989 while spinning backwards, but it was close.

Asked if he had seen such a mad final lap, Carlin told Motorsport.com: “Not in Macau.

"There have been a few races where it has all gone a bit ‘Pete Tong’ - Paul Stewart winning the race at Snetterton going backwards was right up there. But this is right up there. I am just proud to have been a part of it.”
