John Antonino Wins First Race But Dnf The Second
Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada - Sept. 2, 2001. John C Antonino wins the first battle but Luciano wins the war and collect his twelve win in a row in USF3, the fifth in a row on the 2001 season.
The scheduled Round 5 and 6 has been combined into a single event, combining the results of two races, after that Race 1 has been shorten to only three green laps due to a four cars crash at the starting in turn 1.
John Antonino (Asia Express-GrapeKing-Arra-Uptown-Giumarra.com-RLC-Eurointernational Dallara F301 VW), starting from the pole, has won the first race of his young career with only 1"070 in front of Luciano Gomide (GOL-Impact Protection System-Eurointernational Dallara F300 VW) but has lost the opportunity to win his first USF3 race, spinning on turn 5 on Race two, trying to remain close to Luciano Gomide, who was leading the race with 3 laps to go.
The Eurointernational-duo has run another wheel to wheel USF3 event, dominating the 24 cars field in both races with very difficult track condition..
"In Race 1 was only yellow and I touched wheels with John (Antonino) a couple of time, but the races ended in only three green laps, so I gave 100% and more in Race 2 for pass John and create a safe margin on him "said Luciano Gomide."He did two great races and took me over my limit when I was behind some back-marker. I was lucky not to crash at least three time, and only when I saw John spin in turn 5, I knew that my twelve wins was reality".
With this win, Luciano Gomide breaks Ayrton Senna's record of 11 wins in a row.
"I was sure that this was my day even when Luciano (Gomide) pass me on Race two because I was able to stay within my 1" second advantage of Race 1"said John C Antonino"I losted on turn 5 when I was planning to re-pass Luciano in the same way he took the lead earlier. I learn a lot today, and now I know that a complete win is possible soon. We have had a great battle all day long and without my mistake now I will be celebrating."
Jacek Mucha (Orion Ralt) finished third followed by Mario Urbano, Kyle Herder and Gianni Biral.
After Round 5&6, Luciano Gomide leads the standing with 50 points, followed by John C Antonino with 24 and Kyle Herder with 13.
USF3 will run Round 7 at Pocono International Raceway North Course on September 15.
