Re-united with his former team Fortec Motorsport for this prestigious race, the Red Bull Junior driver was back on pace and looking at starting on pole. However in the dying minutes of the session, Blomqvist was unable to get another clear lap, losing pole position and ending up sixth.

During the qualifying race on Saturday, he unfortunately stalled at the start. Whilst waiting to be restarted a car drove straight into the back of him, ending his day and causing him to start at the back of the grid for the final race.

Blomqvist then went on to have a great race yesterday. His talent that hasn’t had much chance to be shown this year came out as he moved his way through the 28-car field. When the checkered flag was shown 15 laps later, Blomqvist was able to bring his car home in eighth place.

“It was really great to be back on the pace and that was the main thing,” said the 19-year-old. “It was frustrating to miss out on pole because I had it until the last few minutes of the session but Macau is like that, a bit of a lottery as to whether you get a clear run or not. The qualifying race didn’t then go quite to plan, but I had a great final race yesterday and really good pace. It was a great feeling to drive from the back to the front and I have to thank the team for giving me a great car this weekend. It’s a shame we didn’t get the result we should have but still good to show that the speed was there.”

Blomqvist has been competing in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship this year with EuroInternational. He was able to earn three podiums and finished the season seventh in the championship.
