Two podiums for Lucas Lassere (Racing Engineering)!
The results of Racing Engineering's drivers at the second round of the Spanish Formula 3 Championship 2002 partially compensated for the problems that occurred during Saturday's qualification sessions.
Lucas Lassere finished both races in third position. Alvaro Parente after a great performance in the first race where he started from 13th position on the starting grid finished 5th in both races. Andy Soucek gained 4th position in the second race of this weekend's meeting. Andy one more time won the Junior Cup!
Lucas Lassere started from 3rd position on the starting grid had a good start into the race. He could keep his position until the end of the race, but could not interfere into the fight for the victory.
Andy Soucek, the young Austrian, starting into the race from 8th position, left the first corner already being 6th. In lap 6 Andy went off the track due to breaking problems and got stuck in the gravel.
Alvaro Parente went into the race from 13th position. Due to other drivers getting off the track and several amazing overtaking maneuvers, Alvaro could finish the first race in Jerez in 5th position.
Alvaro Parente after the first race said,"I had some problems with the tires, but this race was fun. In the last lap I managed to also overtake Robinson, as he was faster in slow corners, but I was faster in the fast corners, and I saw my opportunity to finish the race ahead of him."
Lucas Lassere started the race from 4th position and left the first corner already being third. Lucas was in third position until Giebler went off the track in lap 9. Lucas could keep his 2nd position until problems with the fuel pump in the last lap made him fall back into position 3 again.
Alvaro Parente went into the 2nd race from position 5 and was very happy with the improvement of the car compared to the free practice days.
Alvaro could keep this position and showed a wonderful performance to the audience fighting with Hernandez for 3rd position. When Alvaro in lap 14 tried to overtake Hernandez, he spun and was overtaken by his teammate Andy Soucek. Alvaro finished the 2nd race in 5th position.
Andy Soucek, not at all happy with his performance in the first race, left the starting grid from 7th position. Andy delivered a very consistent performance. When Alvaro Parente trying to overtake Hernandez spun in lap 14 in front of Andy, he passed Alvaro and could finish the race in 4th position.
Racing Engineering's drivers finished the second race 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Lucas Lassere after the second race announced,"I had a good start and was very quick during the first laps. Costa simply was quicker this weekend in Jerez, but we have five more meetings! And therefore it's important to get the full points in Estoril."
Alvaro Parente stated,"We could improve the setup of the car a lot and got where we wanted. I quickly found a good race rhythm and could catch up to the third. When I tried to overtake and scare him a little bit, I made a big mistake. But I am happy, because the car is so much better now and my team is doing great work"
Andy Soucek after the Jerez meeting said,"It was a difficult weekend for me. I didn't have a good start in the second race, but was quite fast during the first laps. I was lucky some cars went off the track and also being able to pass Alvaro. It's sad for him, but he should have tried to overtake at a different part of the track."
