Andre Lotterer (Opel Team BSR Dallara/Opel) strengthened his challenge for the lead of the German Formula 3 Championship last weekend when he closed to within two points of sometime leader, Italy's Giorgio Pantano (Opel Team KMS Dallara/Opel).

Lotterer took fifth place in the first of two 18 lap races at the Nurburgring, and as Pantano retired after just eight laps, despite setting fastest race lap, the German driver could see the championship lead in his sights. The second race saw close racing between Lotterer and eventual winner, Toshihiro Kaneishi from Japan (GM Motorsport Dallara/Opel), but the scoop of points for second place resulted in renewed hope for this year's German F3 title.
