New Zealand's Nick Cassidy became the first foreigner to win the Japanese Formula 3 title since Marcus Ericsson in 2009.
Cassidy, 21, saw off his local rivals Kenta Yamashita and Mitsunori Takaboshi in a season-long scrap, ending his campaign for Toyota's factory-supported TOM'S squad with seven wins from 16 races.
The Kiwi's sole finish outside of the points came in the season opener, when he collided with teammate Yamashita in the fight for the lead.
He arrived to the season finale at Sugo level on points with Yamashita, but comfortably dominated both races of the round.
Cassidy's previous accolades include two Toyota Racing Series titles, three New Zealand Grand Prix wins and a podium finish in last year's Macau Grand Prix.
