Erik Janis to race F3 Masters at Zolder
The biggest race of the season waits for Erik Janis this weekend. Together with 35 drivers from the whole world will compete in the RTL GP F3 Masters. The young guns will fight at Zolder, Belgium, which has been home of the masters since last year, Dutch Zandvoort hosted the even in the past. The place of the event does not affect the old truth connected to this prestigious event - who succeeds in this battle has a big chance to move up, often even to the F1. Twenty years old Erik will race, as usual, in the Mucke Motorsport team.
The Junior Mercedes Benz driver has been racing an F3 car for the first season and is currently third in the rookie standings. He is going to Belgium determined to improve qualifying performance which was his biggest weakness so far. Zolder will se different and more complicated qualifying system.
The drivers will be divided to two groups with even and odd numbers (Erik will have 14 instead usual 4 in the Euroseries). Ten fastest drivers from each group will advance to the decisive session for the best 20 grid slots. The rest will fight for other places. Unlike in the Euro Series, the drivers will do just one race during the weekend.
Erik Janis: "The Masters is a big race and obviously I did not want to disappoint there. It is going to be quite tough because the very competitive F3 Euro Series field will be joined by drivers from other F3 championships, especially from the respected British F3 championship. I, my team Peter Mucke and also my driving coach Peter Collins know that the biggest room for improvement is in the qualifying. We have spent a lot of time analyzing all the details of qualifying."
Peter Mucke: "There is no need to speak about importance of the F3 Masters, it is race of the year with everything what belongs to such event. As always, there will be best F3 drivers from the whole world, which makes it hard and for a rookie like Erik it is very tough event. We hope that he will be able to improve qualifying performance which is very important in F3 and the importance of the grid position will be doubled at Zolder."
