Bryant-Meisner gradually upped his pace throughout the weekend, as confidence grew on the treacherous streets of the gambling metropolis.

After taking the chequered flag in 20th place in Saturday’s Qualification Race – used to determine the grid for the subsequent main event – the Fortec Motorsports youngster shot into 16th off the line as the finale got underway; but his progress was to be short-lived. Just seconds into the race, Bryant-Meisner was tagged into a slide by a rival at the ultra-fast Mandarin Oriental kink, hitting the wall at well over 230 km/h and retiring on the spot. Bryant-Meisner was unhurt.

“Macau is just an amazing place; I’d heard so much about it going into the weekend, but the experience of actually being here still surpassed all my expectations,” says John Bryant-Meisner. “The circuit is extremely challenging – it’s one of a kind – and I have learned so much this weekend.

I really wanted to get into the groove here and knew the importance of getting a lot of uninterrupted running, so I didn’t push to the absolute limit on the first two days. For the Qualification Race, however, I was confident of quite a step up in performance, but then I stalled at the start and rejoined last.

I managed to get back up to 20th and was a lot quicker than the guys in front of me, so I was really looking forward to the finale. Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long, and it was a pretty big hit. It was obviously a shame not to finish, but this weekend has still been a most valuable experience and I would love to come back here in the future. Big thanks to Fortec Motorsports for giving me this opportunity.”

The 2013 season has seen John Bryant-Meisner return to racing following recuperation from a career-threatening crash during testing in 2012. Eager to recover some of the momentum lost due to his accident, the Swede has featured extensively on the international Formula 3 arena this year, combining a full-time assault on the German-based ATS Formula 3 Cup with additional outings in British F3 and the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Bryant-Meisner has won a total of four races in 2013 and is currently weighing up options for his continued career in 2014.
