GOTEMBA - Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam set the fastest time during the two-day Formula 3 test at Motegi in Japan. On the first day, Carlo in his Toyota Team TOM's Dallara was quickest of all fifteen F3 drivers present in both the morning and afternoon session.
"We had two very productive days", says Carlo. "We had some new bits on the car here and we made a lot of progress. For the first time this year I was really happy with the setup and the handling of the car and that was reflected by my lap times instantly. Of course that is quite satisfying. During the second day it rained a lot and also on a wet track things went well. The results of that day are a bit hard to judge, because track conditions varied a lot. But the car felt good and in the end I was second quickest. What is somewhat awkward, is that there is much difference between various sets of the same type of rain tyres, so that will be interesting when it rains during a race weekend..." Carlo finished second in the first two races of the season at Fuji last weekend. At the end of the month, race three and four of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship are held on the Autopolis circuit.
"Before that I will go to Suzuka for a few days to do some work for the Thai importer of Peter de Bruijn, for whom I raced when I was still in karts. So I am having a good time here and especially after this test I am looking forward to Autopolis."
