Fourteenth podium finish in fourteen races

Motegi - With a victory and second place at Motegi, Carlo van Dam has further increased his lead in the Japanese Formula 3 championship this weekend. Today, Carlo scored his fourteenth podium finish in his fourteen races with Toyota Team TOM's to date, and he now has a 80 point lead in the championship standings. Consequently, with four more races remaining, last year's German Formula 3 champion seems to be heading for the F3-title in Japan as well.

"However, I am not happy with finishing second today of course", says Carlo. "After winning four races in a row, you naturally want more! Like yesterday, I started from second place on the grid today, but this time my team mate Kunimoto just got away better. After that, the race was kind of already decided to be honest. Overtaking is basically no option here unfortunately: everybody is equally fast on the straights and as soon as you close in on a car in front of you and stick to its tail, you inevitably destroy your front tyres. Also, we raced shortly after the Formula Nippon-race today and then, for some reason, everyone in Formula 3 complains of a lack of grip. Anyway, with a win and a second place I managed to widen the gap to Iguchi again here and so my chances of winning the title have increased along with it. I am not now going to simply collect points to get that title, however. I just want to win each and every remaining race."

The fifteenth and sixteenth race will be held at Fuji on August 30 and 31. A week earlier Carlo will be part of the Lexus GT works team run by Toyota Team TOM's in the Suzuka 1000 KM.
