Heading to Mugello: the turning point of the season
The Formula 3 championship, about two months after the opening round held on the 11th of May, comes back to the International Raceway of Mugello for its fourth round that will conclude the first half of the 2008 season. The outcome of the latest racing weekend at Monza made the battle for the title very tight, with Edoardo Piscopo (Team Ghinzani) still at the lead but with a gap reduced to nine points on Mirko Bortolotti (Lucidi Motors).
In occasion of the first round, the Tuscan track turned out to be very favourable for the current leader that ruled the weekend achieving a great hat trick with both pole positions, victories and fastest laps. The battle for the third place is interesting too. At the moment it involves Francesco Castellacci (Lucidi Motors), Giovanni Nava (Lucidi Motors) and Salvatore Gatto (Europa Corse), but they might easily be joined by Salvatore Cicatelli (BVM-Target Racing) and Nico Verdonck (RP Motorsport).
The weekend programme schedules, after the thirty minutes long qualifying on Saturday (at 12.10 Italian time), both races for Sunday respectively at 9.00 and 15.50 local time.
Angelo Corbetta (Team Minardi by Corbetta, Team Principal):
"We suffered a bit in qualifying at Monza, for this reason we will specifically work to improve our position in the starting grid at Mugello. Should everything go as planned we will be close to the first and therefore fight for the podium."
Salvatore Cicatelli (BVM-Target Racing):
"I am satisfied by my beginning of the season: I am improving race after race and at Monza I got my first Formula 3 podium. In race two I made an error but I was anyway competitive. I am very hopeful for this weekend."
