CHAVES WINS ITALIAN F3 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD AT MONZA

American teenage star ended his 2010 season with another rookie win as the top Mygale racer

MILAN, ITALY (October 25, 2010) - American junior formula car standout Gabby Chaves ended his inaugural season of Italian Formula 3 Championship competition this past weekend (October 23-24) by adding another title to his already impressive racing resume. The Eurointernational racer earned the Rookie of Year award at the historic Autodromo Internazionale di Monza by overcoming a rare technical failure in Round 15 to finish a strong seventh in Round 16 of the season-finale doubleheader.

Chaves entered the final two races of the eight-event Italian Formula 3 Championship riding a wave of momentum, as the American teenager was coming off a pair of impressive testing outings. Not only had Chaves been among the Italia F3 racers challenging for top honors during a pre-event test run at Monza, but he had also showcased his skill behind the wheel of a GP3 Series car, cracking the top-five in his first-ever series test in Portugal.

Given these results, it came as no surprise that Chaves was immediately up to speed and leading both the Mygale and talented rookie contingent on the speedcharts when he took part in second practice session at Monza, posting the fifth quickest time overall, despite having missed the opening Saturday session.

Chaves continued to show great speed and skill during the lone qualifying run later in the day, earning a row two starting position (fourth place), a mere 0.004s behind his much more experienced teammate on the timing monitors.

Unfortunately for Chaves, qualifying proved to be the highlight of his day. Poised to challenge for top honors at the home of the Italian Grand Prix, the 2009 Formula BMW Americas champion's Round 15 race ended before the action even got underway, as his Eurointernational Mygale M-10 suffered a technical failure on the formation lap.

While both Chaves and the Eurointernational crew were devastated by what had happened, they immediately refocused on Sunday's Round 16 season-finale. Lining up on the inside of row three via the top-eight inverted grid, the stage was set for the highly-rated American to fight for a podium position in pursuit of the rookie crown. Chaves was promptly involved in a spirited drafting battle for position throughout the 17-lap affair, ultimately crossing the stripe in seventh place, taking home yet another rookie win, as well as leading all the Mygale racers to the checkered flag. More importantly, the top-10 finish was enough for Chaves to clinch the Rookie of the Year honors, and give him 10th place in the very competitive Italian Formula 3 Championship.

"I'm very happy to have won the Rookie of the Year award," stated Chaves. "It was definitely not easy, as we spent most of the season developing the Mygale chassis to try and get it up to par with the quicker Dallara car. This weekend we showed again that we never give up. I really have to thank the Eurointernational crew for all their hard work this season. Without them, I would not have won the rookie title. Now I can't wait for the 2011 season to get underway."

In preparation for the upcoming 2011 race season, Chaves is scheduled to take part in off-season tests with a variety of European race teams in the coming weeks, prior to make an official decision on his next racing endeavor in the New Year. Those interested in supporting this up-and-coming American racer are asked to contact Chaves or his management team.
