Misano: both drivers into points in the season opener of the Italian Formula 3 Championship
Team Corbetta Competizioni harvested the first points at Misano Adriatico in the opening round of the Italian Formula 3 Championship, which was characterized by rain that made the tarmac slippery since qualifying.
Qualifying had an outcome not completely favourable to the two rookie drivers Alex Fontana and Dino Zamparelli, who qualified respectively in twentieth and twenty-eighth positions with best lap times 1'57.956 and 1'59.668.
Race one was run on rain tyres and did not offer particular twists. It concluded with the same outcome of qualifying for the young Swiss talent, while the promising Italian-British driver recovered two positions, finishing in twenty-fourth position. Both drivers obtained anyway the first points in the rookies classification. In race two, Alex Fontana, after recovering three positions, has been forced to the retirement during the fifteenth lap due to a technical problem. Zamparelli finished twentieth under the chequered flag instead.
In the rookies classification Zamparelli is at the moment sixth with 8 points, 25 adrift the leader Kevin Giovesi (BVM-Target). Fontana is twelfth at 2.
Angelo Corbetta (Team Principal):
"Weather conditions did create some difficulties to all rookies and to some experienced drivers too. All in all, we defended ourselves well and both drivers got some points for the rookies classification. Now we have the Hockenheim exit, a new track for this championship that could reserve some surprises".
The Italian Formula 3 Championship will be back on track next 13 June at Hockenheim, Germany.
