Famous sons to challenge in F3 Derek Hill (son of Phil Hill) and Toby Scheckter are expected to compete against each other in F3 this season. Toby has already signed for Speedsport, whilst Derek is expected to race with Alan Docking Racing.

Button tests Renault The Promatecme team has started testing for their 1999 F3 assault with Jenson Button and Aluizio Coelho at Nogaro. Other teams are still concluding deals, with Fortec expected to have Kristian Kolby and Matt Davies at the wheel, whilst Doug Bell is being linked to a drive with SS Sport. Jean-Christophe Ravier has signed for Graff Racing.

Justin Wilson in 'learning year' Justin Wilson, who has concluded a deal with Astromega in F3000, has said that 1999 will be a learning year for him before a full assault on the championship in 2000. He is expected to test the car for the first time in mid-February at Croix-en-Ternois.

Dams signs drivers DAMS have signed 2 French drivers - Franck Montagny and David Terrien - for the 1999 squad. The team are hoping to re-live the glory days of 1994, when they were the team to beat.

Battistuzzi guns for UKF3000 Marcelo Battistuzzi is to go back from International F3000, and enter the UKF3000 championship. The reasons cited are cost. He is to drive for the Redman Bright team. His move further strengthens the field.
