Debutant learns his way

Formula 3 debutant Chris Alajajian came through his "Baptism Of Fire" with an eighth and a sixth in the two heats of round five of the championship, both punctuated with difficulties getting the Piccola Scuderia Dallara F301 Alfa Romeo off the line.

"I had a problem positioning my knees in the car, and when I used the pedals the knee bumped against the gear selector," he said.

In the first instance, he stalled the car getting away from the formation for the warm-up lap and as a consequence, would start from the rear of the grid.

On the opening lap of 12, he improved to eighth, snaring another spot the next time around before a spin at the turn nine hairpin on lap three, where he lost another two positions. He raced the remainder without incident to finish eighth.

The second heat start was more dramatic where Alajajian stalled at the start. Fortunately those behind found their way around without incident and the category's newest recruit took off at the back of the field, ultimately improving four places by the race completion.
