KNIGHT FOLLOWS UP ON PROMISING FORMULA 3 DEBUT

Christchurch racing driver Andy Knight returns to Australia this week to contest Round 7 of the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship after a promising series debut earlier this month.

Knight will again be at the wheel of the Astuti Motorsport Renault - Sodemo Dallara F304.

This weekend's round will take place at Queensland Raceway on the outskirts of Ipswich, 50 kilometres west of Brisbane. Knight is looking forward to his second outing in the series after suffering from electrical problems at his series debut on the Phillip Island circuit near Melbourne two weeks ago. "The problems at Phillip Island were understandable", said Knight today as he prepared to return across the Tasman. "Astuti Motorsport only took delivery of the Dallara at 5pm on the Friday prior to Phillip Island and there was no time to prepare the car. We will test at Queensland Raceway this Wednesday and we will be able to gauge our progress from last year's lap times. A top three position in both of this weekend's races would be great", he continued.

Queensland Raceway is a clockwise circuit, 3.12 kilometres in length, featuring 6 corners. Knight does have some first hand knowledge of the track having previously driven a Formula Ford there. "It is a fairly simple circuit, but that sometimes makes it harder as everyone has been around there and knows how to go quickly", he say's.

After testing on Wednesday Knight and the Astuti Motorsport team will take part in two practice sessions on Friday followed by two official qualifying sessions on Saturday. On Sunday Knight will line up for two races, both of which are part of the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship.

Knight, one of the top competitors in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, demonstrated his ability in the final race at Phillip Island when he charged from 12th on the grid to a 5th place finish behind his Astuti Motorsport team mate Michael Trimble. On the way to that result he set the third fastest lap of the race after struggling with electrical gremlins over the early part of the weekend with the newly arrived Dallara.
