The Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship has today confirmed five Events that will form part of the 2011 race for the Gold Star award.

In addition to the recently announced Darwin Formula 3 SuperPrix, to be held alongside the SKYCITY Triple Crown V8 Supercar Event on June 17-19, the series has today announced four rounds to be held in conjunction with long-time partners the Shannons Nationals.

The series will return to three high-speed, challenging circuits ideal for 'wings and slicks' racing, namely Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney (July 15-17), Morgan Park Raceway in Warwick, QLD (August 12 - 14), Sandown (September 9-11) and the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria (November 4-6).

The series will confirm two to three additional rounds following final negotiations with several Event promoters currently underway.

Formula 3 organisers are aware that 2011 marks a critical year in the development of the class and is confident of piecing together a schedule that will offer enhanced value to drivers looking to race Formula 3 in Australia.

The confirmed rounds notably bring the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship in line with at least two Events - Eastern Creek and Sandown - that will feature the Australian Formula Ford Championship, a noted stepping stone to F3 around the world.

Formula 3 officials feel it important to expose the championship to the young drivers racing in Formula Ford whilst at the same time offering fans of open-wheel racing two Events that will get the mouth watering. Plans are also currently underway to forge further links between Formula Ford drivers and Formula 3, to be announced in due course.

Formula 3's return to Morgan Park comes after a successful debut by the category at the recently extended circuit in 2010, the new layout producing three exciting races and a new challenge for drivers - not to mention a large and enthusiastic local crowd, many witnessing the cars for the first time.

With more than six cars based locally, Morgan Park offers a stronghold for Formula 3 and the series is committed to continuing to support its large Queensland contingent.

Eastern Creek and Phillip Island are both key circuits for Formula 3 cars, showing Australia's fastest racing cars at their best, whilst Sandown offered one of the most dramatic finale's in all of Australian Motorsport with the showdown for the 2010 title last November.
