Exciting race action guaranteed
When the starting lights will be switched off this weekend at the Motorsportarena Oschersleben for the first two rounds of the 2010 ATS Formula 3 Cup season, a promising field will rocket away from the starting grid. Hopeful rookies and established drivers, new teams and experienced squads. In the 18-race season, they will battle it out for points and trophies in the ATS Formula 3 Cup and - the older cars - the ATS Formula 3 Trophy. The winners will be rewarded with a total prize money of €140.000 and a husky VW Scirocco that will accompany the races as safety-car.
One of the drivers keen on securing this prize is Stef Dusseldorp. The Dutchman finished runner-up in 2009 and consequently, winning the title is his only goal. "Everything else would represent a disappointment," he underlines. The problem: his rivals have set themselves the same goal. Germany's Markus Pommer for instance or Austrian Willi Steindl. After all, they both are going to also contest their second Cup season.
But why shouldn't a rookie make it to the very top, in the end: drivers such as Kevin Magnussen or Jimmy Eriksson. In the pre-season tests, both the Dane and the Swede delivered in convincing style. And even more so Felix Rosenqvist from Malmo, Sweden and Israel's Alon Day. The two team-mates proved to be impressively quick and matured in every single test. Nonetheless, you will have to wait and see if they will be able to cope with the pressure in their Formula 3 debut races held on 10th and 11th April at Oschersleben.
And although the ATS Formula 3 Cup field once again features remarkable 13 driver nations, a young man with a famous name and German passport could be the one causing a stir, this year: Daniel Abt. The offspring of the renowned tuner and racing-driver family from Germany's Allgau region makes his Formula 3 debut for reigning champions Van Amersfoort Racing and entered the ATS Formula 3 Cup with the 2009 ADAC Formula Masters title under his belt.
So, one thing can be taken for granted: Germany's fastest single-seater series is on the way to another thrilling season. All those involved know what it's all about. The chances are rare. Those who haven't succeeded in Formula 3 in two or three years at the most usually have to cope with the first slump in their career. Everybody is aware of the fact that the foundation for a Formula 1 career is laid by convincing performances in Formula 3. And that's why the ATS Formula 3 Cup is going to once again make for a major spectacle, at the Motorsportarena Oschersleben.
With immediate effect, the motor-racing enthusiasts have the chance of watching the ATS Formula 3 Cup action just a few hours after the Sunday race. On Monday morning at 00:15hrs, in the new single-seater magazine of the German TV station 'Kabel eins'. And on the following weekend, Germany's sports channel DSF - that will be called Sport1, from 11th April - will bring a 60-minute magazine also featuring an extensive ATS Formula 3 Cup report.
