27 cars on the season-finale grid
The final event of the 2009 ATS Formula 3 Cup season will feature an impressive grid: the 17th and 18th rounds of the season will be contested by 27 drivers! So, the season finale of fastest German single-seater series may be proud of one of the biggest starting grids in international single-seater racing.
The testing day in the run-up to the event also was contested by a huge field: on Thursday, 15th October, the teams used the chance of preparing at the Motorsportarena Oschersleben for the season finale.
And the drivers who contested the season to date now will be joined by several interesting and well-known names respectively. One of them will be Daniel Abt who has won the ADAC Formula Masters Championship just recently. The German will race a Dallara Volkswagen for Team Performance Racing. And there will be Sandro Zeller - at the wheel of a Dallara Mercedes prepared by his father, Jo Zeller. For both, Abt and Zeller, it will be the maiden Formula 3 race weekend.
At the same time, Frits van Amersfoort's championship winning team has increased its line-up. At Oschersleben, new champion Laurens Vanthoor and runner-up Stef Dusseldorp will be joined by India's Armaan Ebrahim. This means that drivers from 19 countries competed in the 2009 ATS Formula 3 Cup! Quite obviously, Rafael Suzuki also will be once again giving his very best, in the Magdeburger Borde region. For the season finale, the Brazilian returns behind the wheel of a Team HS Technik Motorsport entered Dallara Mercedes and is keen on defending his third position in the championship.
Eight drivers will compete in the ATS Formula 3 Trophy, inter alia Finland's Vahamaki brothers, Mika and Marko. They will race for team ADRF. While the Hauser brothers, David und Garry, will battle it out - as usual - for ATS Formula 3 Cup Championship points.
At the end of the day, the ATS Formula 3 Cup weekend once again promises to provide a lot of exciting race action - although the battle for the title is over. Stef Dusseldorp holds a massive 19-point lead in the 'ZF-auto motor und sport-Juniorpokal' ranking for the best rookie but could lose the fight for the title, nevertheless, with Zettl Sportsline driver Markus Pommer being the only driver who may hope for stealing the Dutchman's title. So, everything is prepared for a thrilling season finale contested by experienced drivers and ambitious newcomers.
