For many years, now, the ATS Formula 3 Cup has regarded itself as highly professional basis for the Formula 3 sport. Educating gifted drivers and providing them with profound technology knowledge represents the series' top priority. In 2009, another two drivers have succeeded in making the step to international motor racing: Johnny Cecotto and Kevin Mirocha.
In the forthcoming season, both Venezuelan Johnny Cecotto jr. and Germany's Kevin Mirocha are going to race in the Formula 3 Euro Series season for Team HBR Motorsport. "Being team-mates, now, won't do us any harm," says Kevin Mirocha. "We got to know each other in the ATS Formula 3 Cup and have learned to respect one another. And now we both want to establish in the Formula 3 Euro Series as fast as possible."
In 2008, Johnny Cecotto quickly caused a stir and gave his ATS Formula Cup rivals something to think about - although he made a delayed start into the season. The 19-year old scored points race by race and consistently moved up in the championship standings. In the closing stages, he even battled it out with his HS Technik team-mate, Colombia's Sebastian Saavedra, for the runner-up position in the championship. When the 18th and final round of the season was over, they tied for points but Cecotto had to settle for finishing third, nevertheless, as he hadn't secured as many race wins as his team-mate. Nonetheless, he succeeded in impressing as early as during the season and consequently was invited by Mercedes-Benz to test their DTM car.
Kevin Mirocha dares the fast and direct path: with just one Formula 3 season under his belt, he makes the next step on the motor-racing ladder. In 2008, he made his ATS Formula 3 Cup debut for Kaufmann Racing and secured a total of four podium finishes. On the last race weekend, he replaced Frederic Vervisch - who had secured the title early - at the wheel of the new champion's single seater entered by Team Jo-Zeller-Racing. The German finished sixth in the championship and third in the 'ZF-auto motor und sport -Junior Cup'.
The ATS Formula 3 Cup provides its drivers with a profound education for their future in international motor racing. Cost efficient but thrilling and extremely challenging motor racing prepares the young guns for what they will have to cope with in the higher categories. The work with engineers and the use of numerous data in the areas suspension, engine and aerodynamics make for a basis that represents a must if you want to succeed in professional motor racing. Consequently, Johnny Cecotto and Kevin Mirocha will benefit from their ATS Formula 3 Cup education, in their maiden season on the Formula 3 Euro Series grid.
