Indonesian Ananda Mikola wins in Zhuhai
Indonesian driver Ananda Mikola wins in the Asian Formula 3 Series once again and completes a season opening hat-trick. Second place went to Filipino Dado Pena while Australian Christian Jones finished third.
Driving for Fastron Racing with Threebond, car No. 12 Ananda Mikola won the race almost unchallenged. He claimed: "It was not a very difficult race for me." But he did concede that the Zhuhai International Circuit was a challenge. "This is a good track and there are no bumps at all." He said he would not have any special strategy for tomorrow's second race but he would still drive just as hard.
The race was temporarily halted because of Macanese driver Rodolfo Avila's accident at turn 4 on lap 6. The safety car was used while track marshals cleared his car from the track.
Second placed Dado Pena said he was pleased with second place. "I hope I can pose a more serious challenge tomorrow."
Third placed Christian Jones was a little disappointed with third. "The safety car actually was bad for me. I was fighting with Dado for second but the safety car put a backmarker between us. He tried to slow down and let me pass but I could not pass until after the finish line which meant I had to slow as well. By the time I was past him Dado was too far ahead."
In the Promotional Class, Irish driver Greg Murphy, driving for Toyota Team TOM'S took victory. 1st runner's up was Filipino JP Tuason and third place went to another Irish driver, no. 42 car driver Lee Farrell.
The 4th round of the Asian Formula 3 Championship will begin at 1:35 in the afternoon on Sunday.
