After Jarama, Tiago Monteiro is aiming for another podium finish
The official Minardi Formula One test driver, Tiago Monteiro, is ready for his next challenge at the Belgium circuit of Zolder, where the 3rd and 4th races of the World Series by Nissan will take place, during the next weekend. Expectations are high, after Tiago Monteiro's debut at Jarama, where he led the first race, finishing second due to a drive by penalization, and managed to do a brilliant recovery from a 12th place on the starting grid up to a 6th final standing, on the second race.
With a Dallara prepared by the British Racing Team, Carlin Motorsports, Tiago Monteiro will face a new track, since it will be the first time he will be racing at Zolder. Nevertheless, the constant weather changes this time of the year may influence the qualifying sessions and both races. After a fantastic wet driving display at Jarama, Tiago Monteiro won't have any problem with rain at Zolder, and hopes that he may continue fighting for the top spots.
"I prefer to race under stable conditions, whether that means racing on a dry track or wet tarmac. When the weather conditions are unstable, such as a humid track starting to dry, which sometimes happens in qualifying sessions, the luck factor becomes crucial." Said Tiago Monteiro, which occupies the 3rd position overall in the World Series.
In a Championship like this, with an extremely high level of competition during the races and qualifying sessions, in which a tenth of a second may represent a loss of several places on the starting grid, Tiago Monteiro explains: "The Zolder circuit has a high degree of difficulty, and I hope to swiftly learn the tracks secrets. It is important to do a good qualifying for both races, therefore we will have to achieve a good setup and strategy in terms of tyres. We have to take the most out of the tyres while they are at the right temperature, and pray not to make any mistakes or get caught in traffic, in order to guarantee a perfect lap" reminds the Minardi Driver, which finished at 0,016 from the Pole-Position at Jarama, with the second fastest time, because he encountered a slower car while concluding a flying lap on the last seconds of the qualifying session.
Carlin Motorsport, the British Racing Team responsible for Tiago Monteiro's number 5 car, is also certain that the Portuguese Driver may be one of the victory candidates, if he has more luck on his side, when pushing to the limits in the qualifying sessions and races of the World Series by Nissan.
