Fantastic success of Markus Winkelhock, who conquers the third step of the podium in Race 2.
S.Marino' Christian Montanari seventh in Race 1. A demanding week-end for Draco Team, because of gearbox problems on the Winkelhock's car and 2 failed engines on the Montanari's FR3.5 single-seater.
After two days spent with the Renault technical staff working out the gearbox problems on the Winkelhock's car, at the end of the qualifying session the Elf Team pointed out a engine trouble on the Montanari's single- seater. So, the Draco mechanics worked far into the Saturday night to replace the engine.
In spite of the thorough Renault technical assistance, the gearbox of Markus Winkelhock failed after few laps of Race 1: German driver came into the pits, then he returned to the track, but on lap 9 he was forced to abandon the race definitively.
Instead, his team-mate Christian Montanari made a good start from the fifth row of the grid, and he completed the 19 laps successfully, crossing the finishing line in seventh position and gaining 4 points.
When there were 30 minutes to the Race 2 start, the Solution F technicians, after the analysis of telemetry data of the Montanari's car, informed the Draco staff that also the second engine had big problems: so, S.Marino's driver, disappointed as all his Team, remained into the pit.
Fortunately, before the second challenge, the Renault staff succeeded in repairing the gearbox of Markus Winkelhock, who was able to start and had an exceptional race: a very quick pit-stop (7sec), a perfect strategy, he finished in third position conquering his first podium of the season. Absolutely deserved result for him and Draco team, after an incredible week- end!
