Very positive Saturday for I.S.R. at Motorland Aragon

Fourth place for I.S.R and Sirotkin top ten finish for Zanella.

I.S.R. experienced a very positive Saturday in Alcaniz: the team showed great all-round competitiveness boasting a very good pace in both dry and rainy conditions, something that bodes well for the rest of their F.Renault 3.5 campaign.

A stunning team performance stormed the paddock in the morning's wet Qualifying practice, that saw Sergey Sirotkin post the 2nd quickest time of the session and Christopher Zanella finish very close in P3.

With both their drivers in the first two rows of the grid the team were looking forward to Race 1, that was contested under a pale sun and on a completely dry track.

The different asphalt conditions were no issue for the ISR guys, that again lived up to the expectations: after a good start Sirotkin settled in P3 for most of the race, losing the podium spot just in the final laps when tyre degradation forced him to ease the pace.

He lost one place and took the flag in P4, still a good result that brings important championship points to both him and the team.

Zanella had a good start too from P3 and managed to maintain his position up to lap 9, when he went wide at Turn 8 losing a lot of speed and some places too.

He came back on track in P7 and held it comfortably until the end of the race, confirming a very promising potential for tomorrow.

Sergey Sirotkin (Q - P2; R1 - P4): "After that great qualifying I was aiming to a podium finish and we got really close to that. At the beginning of the race I was very quick and I felt I could chase Pic for P2, but as the race progressed track degradation started being an issue.

I was still pretty quick but Stevens behind me was quicker and managed to catch up. I tried to control him and I used the DRS to keep him at bay, a strategy that worked well until I the movable wing was available.

Unluckily we can use it for just 100 seconds and when those were over he managed to overtake me. Still, P4 is a good result and we are very quick in the wet, the track conditions that are expected for tomorrow".

Christopher Zanella (Q - P3; R1 - P7): "I'm a bit disappointed because my potential would have allowed a much better finish. My start was good and the first laps were good too, I was behind Sergey and I was keeping his pace easily. Unluckily I did a mistake at Turn 8, I went very wide and I lost a lot of ground.

The couple of laps that followed that mistake weren't particularly good, I was so angry at myself that I was overdriving, but after that I again found my pace and closed the race with no worries in 7th place. I learned a lot today, and I'm sure that a great result will be in my reach tomorrow with a mistake-free race".
