Tiago Monteiro keeps up a good performance at Valencia
The Portuguese Driver secured the 5th and 2nd starting grid positions
After his brilliant practice sessions at the Spanish Circuit of Valencia, Tiago Monteiro had, once again, a good performance at the qualifying sessions today, securing a fifth and a second starting grid positions for the two races tomorrow. Even though he had some bad luck at the first qualifying, when the yellow flags interrupted his flying laps, the Portuguese Driver managed to obtain the second fastest time at the second qualifying.
At the first qualifying session, the Minardi Formula 1 Official Test Driver saw his performance being compromised by the yellow flags that where showed twice. "When I completed my first flying lap, I had managed to obtain the best time, nevertheless, as I was entering the second lap, the yellow flags came out and I had to take my foot of the gas pedal" explained Tiago Monteiro. "When I was preparing to attack, I did one lap to warm up the tyres, and the flags came out once again. I didn't have a chance to improve my best mark."
At today's second qualifying session, everything went well for the Portuguese Driver "Despite the fact that I didn't get the Pole, I had a good performance and guaranteed the second best time. The car had a good setup, even though the nose wasn't exactly as I wished for it to be."
The Driver from the Carlin Motorsport Team was happy with the work developed at the practice sessions, where he was always amongst the fastest, and even though he regretted what happened at the first qualifying session, he his confident for tomorrow's races. "The qualifying sessions where of extreme importance for Sunday's races, since it his very hard to overtake at the Valencia Circuit. A good start may represent a huge difference in terms of positions, taking under consideration the fact that the grid start straight is very long, which allows overtaking", said Tiago Monteiro.
