DANIELSSON AND DAMS SCORE FIRST POINTS OF SEASON, GIAMMARIA CONTINUES TO IMPROVE
In the first race Alx Danielsson produced a great display to finish in the points. Considering his competitors have had 3 races extra experience and he had his ankle cast removed only the previous Tuesday, it was a very good result. Starting from the sixth row of the grid, Alx had a good start and stayed in the group of leaders. Because there are no pitstops in Race 1 and it was a tough track to overtake on, Alx kept pace with the leaders throughout the race and hoped that someone made a mistake. His consistent race was rewarded with an 8th place finish.
In the second race, Alx had an even better start, moving up 6 places at the first corner. He was using the outside line to good effect but in the fourth corner, there was contact with another car which resulted in broken suspension and the end of the race for Alx. It was a great shame because another points finish was within reach.
Alx Danielsson: "Coming into Race 1 I was very happy with the car and I had no physical problem for the length of that race. It is great to be able to get back to racing after watching the last two rounds from the sidelines. This feels like a new beginning to the season and I am very happy that I have proved I can keep up with the leaders. It was very disappointing to go out so early in Race 2 because I had such a good start and the car was feeling really good. I definitely think I could have scored more points there and now I can't wait to prove it at Le Mans."
Raffaele Giammaria continued his steep adjustment curve in FR3.5. The cars are very different to the F3000 cars that Raffaele is used to driving and each session he is learning something new. In the first race he had a few difficulties with an oversteering car and spun out on the 6th lap. In the second race he felt better in the car and this translated into a more consistent race. The gap between his lap time and the leaders was significantly reduced. Then, just after the midway through the race, another car tried to pass him and spun, hitting Raffaele's car and putting him out of the race. It was disappointing, but the progress he made throughout the weekend was a big positive.
Raffaele Giammaria: "I have really enjoyed this weekend with DAMS, I feel that we have done a lot of good work. I am still adapting to this new car and so it is satisfying to see the progress I am making. In the second race I found something to change in my driving that made a big difference and I am looking forward to race again with DAMS and this fantastic car."
