The F.Renault 3.5 Saturday in Spa was a day to forget for Zeta Corse. After some very good performances in the Friday Free Practice sessions, the Italian outfit wasn’t on the same level in Qualifying. A misunderstanding between two members of the technical staff caused a setup mistake that gave Carlos Sainz Jr. an unbalanced car, and the Spanish youngster couldn’t do better than 19th place.
Then, in Race 1, a clutch issue stopped the Spaniard already in the first lap, a real pity as he had already recovered three places at the start. Mihai Marinescu, meanwhile, had a difficult qualifying and ended the session in P25: at the start of the race he had a good getaway but a rival punted him, sending his car into a spin by and damaging his right rear wishbone. Despite that, he managed to finish the race in 21st place.
Claudio Corradini - Team Manager
“We had a really troubled day. We are deeply sorry for Carlos, as we didn’t give him the opportunity to fulfill the potential he had showed yesterday. Mihai’s race was very unlucky too, he had the pace to recover some ground but another competitor punted him. Luckily we still have tomorrow to turn the tide, and I can guaranteed that the whole team will push hard to get back where we deserve”.
