World Series by Nissan races run on Sunday at the Estoril Track
Many of the Portuguese flags used in support of their country during the European Football Championship 2004, may be waved once more this weekend at the Estoril Track. The cause for celebration is the World Series by Nissan, supported by the Portuguese driver Tiago Monteiro, who currently holds third position in the championship and aims to a good result in the upcoming races (10h45 and 12h15) next week end, on his home ground, driving his Dallara for the Carlin Motorsport Team. Although very motivated, the Portuguese driver's races will surely be toughened up by his most competitive opponents, the finn Heikki Kovalainen for Sito Pons and the Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi, former F1 Arrows driver and newly appointed test driver for Bar-Honda.
Tiago Monteiro who completed his first test practice for the Minardi Team, promises:"The Minardi F1 Tests went really well, but I must forget that day for now and concentrate on the Estoril races. I'll have all my friends, family, sponsors and hopefully a lot of public supporting me for this race. I believe this race can get quite interesting. The position we will get for the grid will be very important".
After the Vallelunga test, where Tiago Monteiro impressed the Minardi technicians, the Portuguese driver spent some time at Estoril with the Carlin Motorsport Dallara, registering the fastest lap time: "It was a busy day. We tried out a variety of set ups and we made important conclusions for the race. The Sunday races will be quite emotional for me, so I'd like to see the Grand Stands full of Portuguese fans waving the Portuguese flag."
The public has free access to the Grand Stands, through invitations being currently handed out at all the TOTAL service stations, the Fastaccess.com site; www.clix.pt, www.sapo.pt, at the Nissan Dealerships and many other distribution points.
Heikki Kovalainen leads the chart with 126 points; Enrique Bernoldi is second with 90 followed by Tiago Monteiro with 78 points. Ravier (69), Gommendy (61) and Kartikheyan (53) follow.
