Valles joins Kovalainen in the two-time world bike champion owned-team
Barcelona, 27 February 2004 -- The new entered team in the World Series by Nissan, Pons Racing, has completed his 2004 driver's line-up with the confirmation of Adrian Valles, former Formula Junior Spanish Champion and 4th overall in his World Series Light debut. Valles will profit all the experience from Heikki Kovalainen, the 2003 Runner-up of the Series, and the former Technical Chief of the 2003 wining team Jesus Sanchez, who has also joined the Sito Pons squad.
Adrian Valles (3/06/1986) is the third Spanish driver who has entered the 2004 World Series by Nissan, which officially starts the next 9 of March at El Jarama with the first Collective Tests. The first meeting will take place at this same circuit, nearby Madrid, the next 28 of March.
After a promising karting race, the driver became the Spanish Formula Junior Champion in 2002. Last year, he made a fantastic debut in the World Series Light category, finishing 4th.
In its official press release, the team defined Adrian Valles as "the top driver of a new Spanish generation that follows the foot steps of Fernando Alonso, uprising our National driving motorsport to the highest levels". The insert of Adrian Valles in Pons Racing responds to the Team's philosophy of promoting the young talents, as Jesus Sanchez himself comments: "Adrian is the current reference from all the new Spanish drivers, backed by an extensive karting career and heading Formula One."
"I'm convinced that there will be a lot of pressure this Season but I'm ready and disposed to achieve my goals and I believe I have the talent and the mental strength to compete at the top level", said Valles.
Sito Pons is firmly convinced that Valles and Kovalainen will have all the technical and sportive elements in order to fight for the final victory. Although he is aware of the pressure that this young driver may feel sometimes, he high rates the values of Valles: "he has this mix of determination, concentration and maturity - he's able to defeat any trouble that he may find in his way and we are firmly convinced that he will succeed".
